Death Toll Rises to eleven in Kerio Valley Mudslide

The death toll in Kerio Valley mudslide has risen to eleven after one more body was retrived by locals and Kenya Red Cross Society response team.update to follow.

The death toll in the Kerio Valley Mudslide has risen to ten after two other bodies were retrieved. The Kenya Red Cross Society and locals in collaboration with the Provincial Administration are still on the ground in an effort to rescue any more people who could still be trapped in the mud. The Society in also carrying a detailed assessment but a temporary shelter has been set up at Torongon Primary Schools for over 70 families that were in areas that have been marked as risk zones. KRCS is also providing psychosocial support and is set to provide Non- food items to at least 200 families that have been affected in Kaptarakwa, Kabechei, Enego and Kabecheid. more updates will follow.

The Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) is helping in rescue efforts in Keiyo Valley after heavy rains that pounded the area overnight which left eight people dead, several others homeless and houses swept away or submerged.During the 3:am incident in Kocholwa area of Keiyo, crops and household items and even livelihood were also destroyed. Five people were rescued and taken to the Kamwosor health Centre and others to Kipsaos Health Centre. The mainly affected areas include Kabechei, Enego and Kaptarakwa in Keiyo, Marakwet and Iten.The KRCS is working with the locals in the rescue efforts which have been slowed down by heavy rains, impassable roads and mud. It's feared that many could still be trapped as the Society has continued to receive calls from other affected people through phone calls and social media. More updates will follow.
