Abu Dhabi, 8 Jan. 2013 (WAM) - In line with the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the follow up of Gen. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler's Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of the UAE Red Crescent Authority has ordered the dispatch of emergency relief aid to the people affected by the extreme cold wave in Kazakhstan.

The move was made in response to an appeal by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC) and Kazakhstan Red Crescent Society for support in delivering immediate assistance to the people affected by extreme winter in Kazakhstan.

The northern, eastern and central parts of Kazakhstan have been hit by freezing temperatures reaching minus 40 degrees Celsius, causing power and energy supply interruptions in different parts of the country.
