WAM Abu Dhabi, 3rd Aug. 2012 (WAM) -- Emirates World Mobile Humanitarian Hospital will deliver therapeutic, surgical and preventive services to Syrian refugees in Jordan at the hands of a joint Emirati-Jordanian volunteer medical team.

The hospital was carried by air and land to Jordan upon directives from H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of Red Crescent Authority (RCA).

Khadem Al Darie, team leader of the hospital, said the move complements humanitarian operations being carried out by UAE relief organisations in partnership with their Jordanian counterparts to assist Syrian refugees.

A medical team led by UAE cardiologist Adel Al Shameri toured refugees camps in the northern borders in preparation to draw a three-phase operational plan for the hospital.

He said the plan envisages delivery of curative, surgical and preventive services through mobile clinics in the first phase, a 20-bed specialist mobile hospital in the second phase while the final phase will see emergence of up to a 100-bed hospital to meet growing demand for health services.
