Kuwaiti charities donate USD 800,000 to Palestinians, Syrian refugees

AMMAN, Jan 19 (KUNA) -- The Kuwaiti Society of the Revival of Islamic Heritage (Al-Turath) and Al-Najat Charitable Society on Monday offered USD 800,000 in aid for the Palestinian people and Syrian refugees in Jordan through three Palestinian and Jordanian relief agencies.

The funds include USD 518,000 and USD 276,000 from Al-Turath to the Palestinian Al Zakah Committee of Jerusalem and the Jordanian Al-Takaful (Solidarity) Association respectively.

Besides, Al-Najat donated USD 7,800 to the Jordanian Al-Mohsineen (the benevolent) charity, Kuwait Ambassador to Jordan Dr. Hamad Al-Du'aij told KUNA.

"The funding for the three Palestinian and Jordanian fund-raising agencies falls in the framework of the Kuwaiti relief effort for the Palestinian people and the Syrian refugees in Jordan at the behest of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah," Al-Du'aij pointed out.

He made the comments after the ceremony of handing the bank checks to President of Al-Zakah Committee of Jerusalem Ashraf Salhab, Chairman of Al-Takaful association Faisal Al-Theyabat and Chairman of Al-Mohsinin charity Ali Abu Ramis.

Ambassador Al-Du'aij reaffirmed Kuwait's long-standing commitment to helping the Palestinian relief agencies in their efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinians from the malpractices of the Israeli occupation authorities.

"The funding for the Jordanian fund-raising agencies is part of intensive and sustainable relief effort for the Syrian refugees in the Kingdom being made through a state-people partnership since the start of the Syrian crisis," he said.

He noted that several popular and media delegations from Kuwait visited the refugees camps in northern Jordan to inspect the aid works in the four years.

On his part, Ashraf Salhab commended as fruitful the partnership between Al-Zakah Committee of Jerusalem and Al-Turath in the last 15 years.

"The funding offered by Kuwait today comes at a crucial moment as the Arab residents of Jerusalem are facing escalated attempts by the Israeli occupation authorities to evict them from their homes," he said.

Salhab expressed gratitude to His Highness the Amir and the Kuwaiti people and government, appreciating the efforts of the Kuwaiti diplomatic mission in Jordan in coordinating the aid for the Palestinian people.

Meanwhile, Al-Theyabat said Al-Takaful association will use the Kuwaiti donations in offering foodstuffs and blankets for nearly 6,000 Syrian families living in Al-Ramtha city, northwest Jordan. Abu Ramis said, in a similar statement to KUNA, that the Kuwaiti donations are very crucial in saving the lives of the Syrian refugees in the Kingdom amid the current cold wave. (end) ab.gb
