Kuwait distributes 3,000 food baskets in liberated neighbourhoods in Mosul

IRBIL, Jan 15 (KUNA) The State of Kuwait has handed out 3,000 food baskets, in coordination with Mosul municipal council, to citizens of Wahda neighborhood liberated from the socalled Islamic State (IS) a week ago.

In a statement to KUNA on Sunday, head of Mosul municipal council Basma Baseem said that food baskets provided by Kuwait were doled out today to 3,000 displaced families of Mosul's Wahda neighborhood recently controlled by the Iraqi forces.

Such baskets are badly needed to both citizens and the displaced, she added, noting that the council will meet their needs.

She thanked the State of Kuwait, its government, people and His Highness the Amir for helping Iraqis, mainly citizens of Mosul.

Earlier today, Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) handed out 1,200 food baskets to displaced families living in camps in the autonomous region of Kurdistan.

In a statement to KUNA, Kuwait's Consul General in Irbil Dr. Omar AlKandari said that the aid is part of "humanitarian efforts to alleviate the misery of the Iraqi people." AlKandari added that KRCS has launched a comprehensive aid package for displaced Iraqis, which includes providing them with nutritious food baskets, indicating that Kuwait's General Consulate will help facilitate the aid process.

Meanwhile, KRCS's Director of Disaster Management Yousef AlMiraj told KUNA that the society has "delivered humanitarian aid to 1,200 families, all of whom were the recipients of food baskets." With the launch of operations of liberating Mosul from the IS on October 17, Kuwait has been providing food baskets to the areas liberated from IS.

Kuwait also provides two daily meals to internally displaced persons in the camps of Khazer and Hassan Sham in Mosul.

It funded the establishment of two hospitals equipped with two ambulances in the two camps, and handed out 10,000 blankets and 60,000 liters of Kerosene to the displaced persons. (pickup previous) sbr.hm
