GENERAL CONTEXT

During the reporting period, returns continued to Yathrib, Dhuluiyah, Shirqat and Tikrit with anticipation of returns soon to start to Baiji district. March witnessed a deterioration of the security situation in Salah al-Din with not less than 27 attacks, including two major incidents in Tikrit, carried out by extremist groups causing an undetermined number of casualties including fatalities among residents, returnees and the Iraq Security Forces (ISF) and also the displacement of about 240 families. Attacks recorded during the reporting period in various return areas reflect the enhanced risks, especially on the western bank of Shirqat and in Salah al-Din’s areas bordering Diyala governorate.
