Iran flood toll rises to 42, many more still missing
Weather forecasts broadcast by state radio warned that fresh downpours threatened to aggravate the impact of flash floods which swamped around 180 villages in Golestan province Monday.
President Mohammad Khatami strongly criticized the provincial authorities Wednesday for not doing more to tackle the floods, the second to hit Golestan in a year.
Just 20 bodies have so far been identified and returned to their families, IRNA reported.
Roads, bridges and other infrastructure have been destroyed across a large swathe of the province, cutting it off the rest of Iran.
