Earthquake in Simeuleu, Aceh Province, SITREP # 3: 16 April at 13.00 PM local time (UCT+7)
HIGH LIGHTS
On 11 April 2011 at 15.38 PM Western Indonesian Time (UCT+7), a 8.3 Richter scale/RS earthquake (EQ) hit 346 kilometres south west of Simeuleu with 10 kilometres depth.
U.S. Geological Survey reported the magnitude of the EQ as 8.7 RS which took place at a depth of 33 kilometres.
The tremor was felt in 5 provinces in NAD, North Sumatera, West Sumatera, Lampung and Bengkulu provinces. The local residents were in panic. The tremor was also felt in Singapore and Malaysia.
National Meteorological, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) declared tsunami warning.
PTWC (Pacific Tsunami Warning System) in Hawaii has also alerted tsunami for Malaysia, India, Sri Lanka,
Myanmar and others.The aftershocks were reported following the first EQ. The biggest aftershocks reported two hours after the EQ with 8.1 RS (USGS reported 8.2 RS) at 17:43:06 PM Western Indonesian Time (UCT+7) which hit 483 Km Southwest Simeulue with 10 depth. BMKG continued the tsunami alert;
Centre for Health Crisis MOH reported the death of 8 persons, hospitalization of 6 patients with major injuries; 101persons were treated at the outpatient clinics from minor injuries. The damage of health facilities were 39.
In addition to the data from CHC MOH, BNPB reported the damage of 2 houses in Aceh Besar (light damage:1 house and moderate damage:1 house); 1 bridge, 1 boarding house, 1 office and 1 prison. There are 1,000 IDPs located in 14 IDPs camps in Aceh Besar district. IDPs have returned home;
Respected District Heath Offices and Provincial Health Offices have evacuated the victims, provided medical services, coordinated with Badan Penanggulangan Bencana Aceh/BPBA and raised the level of alert of the health facilities.
West Sumatera PHO established post and raised the alert level at the M Jamil Padang and M Zein Painan South Pesisir hospitals.
BNPB has deployed 3 teams to Simeleu, Padang and Bengkulu to conduct rapid assessment and prepared the rapid action team in stand-by position in Halim perdanakusumah airport.
Centre for Health Crisis deployed a team comprising 7 people to monitor the situation in Aceh province.
Aceh PHO, North Sumatera PHO, West Sumatera PHO, Bengkulu PHO, Lampung PHO, North Sumatera Regional Center for Health Crisis/RCC, South Sumatera RCC and Center for Health Crisis are assessing the situation.
WHO was on stand-by and in close contact with MOH to provide any assistance needed.
