Chief of BNPB Lead Coordination Meeting after Bima Flood

BIMA – Chief of the National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB) Willem Rampangilei lead a coordination meeting after Bima flood at the Command Post located at Mayor Office on December 25, 2016. In the meeting, Willem said, “Bima is a district with good economic growth but it is prone to disaster. The disaster is an indicator how prone the district is so that it is required mitigation in term of disaster risk reduction. Local government has conducted emergency response very well, while collaboration among government and local community is good as well. Enthusiasm of the people is very huge, which should be managed.“

“BNPB will support the local government in term of financial support, equipment, disaster relief with total value as much as Rp 3,5 billion, as well disaster management such as administrative accountability. According to President’s direction, flood handling prioritizes at basic need for evacuees. Besides, data of existing needs for clearing roads and houses. Another thing to be noted is about public health, education access (school improvement), health service and religious activities.”

“River normalization, drainage improvement, and spatial are efforts for a long term,” Willem said. Meanwhile, Mayor of Bima, M. Qurais H. Abidin said that logistics had been organized by the government and donators. Relief items such as rice, instant noodle, and mineral water were distributed to evacuees. Disaster relief has been distributed. Food, water supply and clothes are still required by the evacuees.

TNI Commander of 162/Wira Bakti Col. Inf. Farid Makruf said,”During 4 days of working together with police (Kapolda and Kapolres), distribution of logistic is able to be distributed equally. It is necessary to be more accurate in data that involving head of villager and neighborhood level.

Following efforts conducted by TNI and police will carry out the cleaning mud and damaged facilities. To improve health services, TNI will bring medical team from Surabaya as many as 14 specialists and 200 health workers.
