KEY developments

- USAID's Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (USAID/OFDA) continues to deliver emergency relief commodities and medical supplies to Haiti to ensure an uninterrupted flow of required materials to respond to the cholera outbreak. Since November 27, USAID/OFDA has delivered more than 400,000 additional oral rehydration salt (ORS) sachets, to benefit 40,000 individuals; 7 million water purification tablets to provide a one-month supply of safe drinking water for at least 78,000 households; and more than 7,500 hygiene kits, which include detergent, toothpaste, and soap, each serving one family for a two-week period.

- On November 29, a team of USAID/OFDA logisticians arrived in Haiti to conduct an assessment of emergency relief commodity pipelines into and within Haiti. The three-person team will identify supply chain gaps and suggest approaches to strengthen warehouse and delivery methods that enable medical supplies to reach facilities in affected and at-risk areas quickly, including hard-to-reach rural areas.

- The U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that due to November 28 presidential elections and related security restrictions, some humanitarian operations were temporarily suspended, although emergency activitiesincluding cholera treatment center (CTC) and unit (CTU) operationsremained ongoing. The USAID Disaster Assistance Response Team (USAID/DART) notes that the elections have not significantly affected cholera response activities and relief agencies were expected to resume pre-election activities by today.
