Prime Minister concerned for children’s welfare

Water, food and proper sanitation in evacuation centres are the critical resources that need to be looked into says the Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama.

The head of government shared his concern for the welfare of children affected from the floods in the area and has called on officials to restore basic services.

He raised this concern during a briefing at the Nadroga Provincial Council Office this morning.

Prime Minister Bainimarama also visited the Nokonoko District School evacuation centre which has more than 50 children.

He has assured that government will supply milk and milk products for infants and babies in evacuation centres and has instructed that medical supplies and medical officers be deployed to evacuation centres immediately.

Prime Minister Bainimarama was informed by relief and disaster officials that there were more than 3,000 evacuees in the Sigatoka area.

The Prime Minister was also briefed on the current works by the Fiji Roads Authority and the Water Authority of Fiji in the provision of road linkages between Nadroga and Navosa.

Communication lines were also affected in the Nadroga/Navosa area but have since been restored this morning.

The Prime Minister continues his tour of flood affected areas in the Western Division.
