1. On October 6 (Thu), the Government of Japan decided to extend emergency assistance in kind (sleeping mats, blankets and water purifiers) worth about 12 million yen to the Republic of El Salvador, which sustained torrential rainfalls caused by tropical depression "Stan."

2. In the Republic of El Salvador, tropical depression "Stan" caused such natural disasters as flooding and landslides in every part of the country from October 1 (Sat), resulting in 49 deaths and 32,045 evacuees as of October 5 (Wed).

3. The evacuees are forced to live under difficult conditions in shelters in wide-ranging areas, and the Government of the Republic of El Salvador has requested emergency aid from Japan, while striving to restore damage on its own.

4. The Government of Japan has decided to extend this emergency aid as humanitarian assistance for the disaster-afflicted and in view of the friendly relations between Japan and the Republic of El Salvador.
