Overview

The Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) continues to be active in CAR and DRC, where a total of 65 LRA attacks were reported in Q1 of 2014. These attacks represent 33% of reported incidents in 2013, with a majority (63%) occurring in DRC. These attacks resulted in two deaths and 93 abductions (of whom 12% are children). The incidents are consistent in pattern to those reported in Q1 of 2012 and 2013 except that the number of reported deaths has significantly reduced.

Since Q4 2013, abductions remain high but have reduced significantly while attacks have increased slightly in CAR and DRC. South Sudan did not report any LRA incidents in the period.

Almost 160,000 people remain displaced in LRA-affected areas of CAR, DRC and South Sudan. The decreasing number of displaced is due primarily to increased returnees in DRC owing to improved security.
