Overview

The trends in LRA incidents continue to indicate a downward trend from Q2 of 2013.

A comparison for the period January to September of 2012 and 2013, however, indicates that whereas the number of LRA attacks decreased in 2013, related number of deaths and abductions were still higher.

A total of 31 LRA attacks were reported in Q3 (a slight decrease (7%) from Q2) resulting in 2 deaths and 39 abductions. DRC recorded the majority of the attacks (29), while CAR recorded most of the abductions (34) arising from a single LRA attack. A suspected LRA attack was also reported in South Sudan after almost two years without such incidents.

Over 353,000 people remain displaced from their homes in LRA-affected areas of CAR, DRC and South Sudan, a 15% decrease from Q2.
