Highlights

  • In June, WFP assisted 644,000 young children and women with food assistance — reaching 100 percent of the planned people to be assisted.

  • In June, WFP completed its Food for Community Development (FFCD) activities.

  • Delays in the arrival of food commodity shipments to DPRK are expected to cause a break in the local production of fortified food in the months of July and August. The delays will affect 526,000 children and women.

Operational Updates

  • In June, WFP assisted 643,900 pregnant women, nursing mothers and children in nurseries, orphanages, primary schools (in the northern provinces only), and in paediatric hospitals. In total, 2,150 mt of blended flour fortified with micronutrients, and fortified biscuits were provided.

  • During the second quarter of 2016, WFP field monitors conducted 273 visits to people assisted in nine provinces and in 70 counties.

  • All eight FFCD projects in seven provinces, which included tree planting and the embankment of riverbeds, were completed in June. All 19,625 participants received a food ration of cereals and oil.
