In the meantime, we received updated Government data on Friday 3 August, taking into account the effects of the downpours and thunderstorms July 29 – 30. The data includes 169 deaths, 144 injured, and 400 missing. 212,204 people are reported as homeless, with 60,096 households affected by either destroyed, damaged or submerged buildings.
More severely affected areas are being revealed as counties in North and South Pyongan (notably Kujang and Tokchon), although the extent of damages and affected peoples covers parts of all 10 Provinces.
With a reported total of 65,282.4 Hectare of damaged arable land, any assessment of the lasting effects will be established by the Crop and Food Security Assessment Mission (CFSAM) in September/October.
Further Assessment
Monday 6 August, a follow-up assessment team of the Health & Nutrition Cluster visited the affected counties of Kaechon City and Songchon in South Pyongan Province to get a better picture of the impact on the Health Sector in the country. The Water, Sanitation and Hygeine (WASH) Cluster is sending an assessment teams to Kujang County (N.Pyongan Province).
