1. SITUATION

CUBA

UNDRO/UNDP RESIDENT REPRESENTATIVE HAVANA REPORTING FLOODS AND LANDSLIDES FROM HEAVY RAINS. STATE MEDIA REPORTS 7,500 EVACUATED. CIVIL DEFENSE DECLARED STATE OF ALERT IN WORST AFFECTED PROVINCES OF SANTIAGO DE CUBA, GUANTANAMO, GRANMA AND HOLGUIN. ROADS AND RAILWAYS CUT, ELECTRICITY AND TELEPHONE SERVICES DISRUPTED, SEVERAL TOWNS AND VILLAGES ISOLATED. RAIN CONTINUES.

HAITI

UNDRO DELEGATE REPORTS SERIOUS FLOODING SOUTHERN COASTAL TOWN OF LES CAYES FOLLOWING HEAVY RAINFALL 3/4 JUNE. THIRTEEN DEAD, 1360 DISPLACED PERSONS, EXTENSIVE CROP DAMAGE. GOVT, RED CROSS AND NGO ASSESSMENT UNDERWAY.

JAMAICA

UNDRO/UNDP RESIDENT REPRESENTATIVE IN KINGSTON REPORTS TROPICAL SYSTEM STATIONARY NEAR JAMAICA SINCE 24 MAY RESULTED IN FLOODS, DAMAGE TO MAJOR BRIDGING ROADS, AND LANDSLIDES. SEVERE FLOODING SAME AREAS WESTERN JAMAICA AS AFFECTED IN 1979. OFFICE DISASTER PREPAREDNESS CONCENTRATING EMERGENCY RESPONSE ON EVACUATION AND OVER 1,000 PERSONS IN EMERGENCY CENTRES KINGSTON, ST. ANDREW AND ST. CATHERINE. FOUR LIVES LOST IN FLOODING, 4 IN TRAFFIC ACCIDENT DUE LANDSLIDE. DAMAGE TO INFRASTUCTURE, HOMES AND CROPS. ASSESSMENT UNDERWAY BUT SIGNIFICANT RAINFALL STILL EXPECTED OVER NEXT FEW DAYS.

2. NONE OF THE ABOVE COUNTRIES HAS YET REQUESTED INTERNATIONAL ASSISTANCE. UNDRO WILL REVERT WITH DETAILED INFO ON NEEDS AS SOON AS RECEIVED.
