Emergency in Northern Cauca, Situation Report No. 1

Report
from UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs
Published on 18 Jul 2012

I. HIGHLIGHTS/KEY PRIORITIES

· An escalation of armed hostilities between the Army and a non-State armed group in five municipalities during the last two weeks has left 15 civilians injured, more than 5,000 people newly displaced and serious damage to infrastructure.

· Access constraints and attacks against medical missions have hindered the provision of assistance to the affected communities. Local capacity to cope with the emergency is overstretched.

· Local authorities and humanitarian partners are providing assistance but gaps are still uncovered.
Hostilities are likely to continue, therefore civilians are still at risk.
