China: Assistance to the floods victims
Grave floods have attacked 12 provinces since June this year. The floods-stricken areas in the country included provinces of Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangxi, Guizhou, Hunan, Hubei, Hebei, Henan, Shandong, Shanxi, Fujian and Autonomous Region of Xinjiang. In these provinces/Autonomous Region, totaled 646 cities/counties, 5,231 township/villages have been affected with population of 114 million, the dead of 1,529, the wound/sick of 18,816 while the direct economical loss was up to RMB 90.1 billion with 6.38 million hectares of damaged farmland, 7.85 million affected houses/rooms, 1.9 million collapsed house/rooms.
For the emergency response to the flood disasters, the headquarters of RCSC mobilized its DP resources and called for its organizations at all levels to carry out relief activities:
Nine assessment teams and 24 persons/time in the headquarters have been organized and sent to affected areas for monitoring the operations;
More than 5,900 medical teams and 15,214 Red Cross staff offered their service to more than 3.78 million victims;
RMB 600,000 as emergency fund was distributed to Guizhou, Zhejiang and Anhui Provinces by the headquarters of RCSC;
More than RMB 65.7 million of donation in cash and kind were collected by Red Cross organizations at all levels across the country for relief operations.
Thanks to the coordination by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, RMB 17.49 million have been contributed by Red Cross of Australia, Britain, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Republic of Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates and the United States as well as Hong Kong Red Cross and some governments of countries via their Red Cross/Red Crescent Societies, while RMB 11.82 million by Hong Kong Red Cross, RMB 2.02 million by Taiwan Red Cross and RMB 4.26 million by other organizations have arrived in China. All these donations totaled up to RMB 35.59 million and were distributed in affected areas with the help and monitor by field delegate of the Federation.
