HIGHLIGHTS

• UNICEF, in collaboration with partners, undertook a SMART nutrition survey between May and June. The results show that malnutrition is getting worse, with GAM rates almost reaching 25% in the Batha region.

• The preliminary results of the EFSA survey conducted by WFP in June 2012 show that 1.8 million people are food insecure in nine regions of the Sahel belt of Chad.

• With the start of the rainy season in Chad, humanitarian organizations prepare to respond to a potential cholera epidemic. In 2012, there were more than 17,000 cases of cholera with about 460 deaths.
