ACTED in Pakistan

Distributions of hygiene and household kits to vulnerable IDPs in North West Frontier Province

ACTED in Pakistan, in cooperation with OFDA, has started a distribution of hygiene and household kits to IDPs living in public buildings and with host families in Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan and Swabi Districts. As to date ACTED has distributed 606 hygiene and 785 household kits. ACTED will proceed with the distribution in the coming weeks, eventually reaching 6,100 IDP families. Besides the ongoing distribution, ACTED will soon start with the construction of latrines, bathing places and water points in public buildings and host communities.

ACTED in Haiti

Income Generating activities for rural communities in Low Artibonite, weakened after the 2008 cyclonic season

Rural communities in Low Artibonite have been weakened by the 2008 cyclonic season which ruined the majority of the harvest. With the support of the European Commission, ACTED equipped and trained five farmer committees to community-based use of ox hitches. These hitches will enable 500 families to do the necessary ploughing for the harvest, thus contributing to the recovery of vulnerable communities.

ACTED in Tajikistan

Support to Agricultural Development

ACTED Tajikistan recently granted farm machinery to 15 farming cooperatives in the Hamadoni and Farkhor districts of Khatlon province. The project aims at enabling the cooperatives and the surrounding local populations to increase their income from farming. Representatives from local governments, agricultural directorates and cooperative members and representatives of supplier company were present at the ceremony.

ACTED in Chad

Distribution of animal traction units

As part of a food security project implemented in the Nya Pende department in Southern Chad, ACTED distributed 74 units of animal traction in early June. Each unit is composed of two oxen, a plough and a yoke. These allocations should ease the ploughing of the indigenous populations and Central African refugees, thus increasing their yields.

ACTED in Nicaragua

Diploma on food security for the native communities of Northern Nicaragua

On June 30th, ACTED inaugurated its joint diploma on food security with the University of the Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua (URACCAN). This 6-month course is intended to provide the native communities living in the reserve of Bosawas with knowledge regarding techniques of agriculture and management of their natural resources.

ACTED in Tajikistan

High quality seeds for better crops

ACTED, in partnership with The Seeds Association of Tajikistan, is in the process of setting up a Seed Multiplication Farm. This farm will provide farmers across the Panj district of Khatlon with high quality, high yield seeds. The resulting crops will allow farmers to increase the income from their fields, increasing the standard of living for the farmers and their families.
