I. HIGHLIGHTS/KEY PRIORITIES

• Latest data (from the National Committee for Disaster Management) at 18 October indicates:

o 18 out of 24 provinces in Cambodia have been affected with Kandal, Kampong Thom, Prey Veng and Kampong Cham the most badly-affected provinces

o 331,765 households (over 1.2 million people) have been affected and 46,403 households evacuated.

o There have been 247 fatalities and 20 injuries as a result of the floods.

• 405,686 hectares of rice fields have been affected with 232,377 hectares reported as damaged. (With the total area of planted rice at 2,466,429 hectares, this represents 9.4 per cent of total crops destroyed).

• The Royal Government of Cambodia has committed US$100 million to flood relief efforts, and has cancelled the upcoming Water Festival boat races to direct those funds to flood efforts.

• The UN Disaster Management Team (UNDMT) continues to meet regularly with NCDM (last meeting was yesterday, 18 October) and will meet with NGOs on Tuesday 25 October. Collaboration with NGOs already is allowing an exchange of information on current and planned relief activities.

• Efforts are ongoing to collect accurate assessments and data on the needs and requirements. Six key sectors have been established: WASH, Food, Agriculture, Health, Education, and Shelter. Two OCHA Bangkok staff are visiting to assist with a Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) funding application and information management. Two OCHA assessment staff are due to arrive in the coming days.
