Highlights

  • More resources are needed to ensure meals for 75,000 schoolchildren.

  • Nutrition activities risk to be suspended in 2017 due to lack of financial resources.

  • No contingency stocks are currently available to provide assistance to vulnerable people affected by inter-communal conflicts including displaced people.

Operational Updates

  • In February, 125,000 students in 615 targeted schools received hot nutritious meals as part of the McGovern-Dole 5-year programme.

  • WFP is in the process of delivering food to schools for the rest of the current school year. This includes food for take-home rations, for which the number of girls assisted was transmitted to WFP by the national Directorate of School Canteens (DCS) in January.

  • WFP and the Government are in the process of selecting agricultural groups nearby schools that will be supported in linking their production to school canteens supply. For this purpose, a selection committee has been established and WFP is working closely with the DCS to finalize the targeting exercise.

  • The uncertainty of available resources required an inventory of WFP warehouses. This slightly delayed the distribution of food to the 20,000 people targeted for FFA activities which will now take place at the beginning of March.
