Overview

Bujumbura-rural, Rumonge, Cibitoke and Makamba provinces are experiencing again the negative effects of El Nino weather. People died and others wounded; houses and fields of crops were also damaged and flooded.

Current situation

1.Romonge

  • 150 houses destroyed by torrential rains and flooding

  • many latrines destroyed

  • 750 persons affected

  • many fields of crops damaged

2.Cibitoke

  • 4 children died due to landslide in Murwi commune

  • 1 child struk by lightning in Mugina commune

  • 1 man drowned and died in Rugombo commune

  • 3 children wounded due to landslide in Mabayi commune

  • 62 houses destroyed in Murwi commune by rainstorms

  • Mpinga- Buzirasazi road momentarily cut in Murwi commune

3.Bujumbura-Rural

  • 60 houses destroyed by flooding in Mutimbuzi commune

  • Around 400 households affected

  • many fields of crops damaged 4. Makamba

  • 2 houses damaged in Nyanza-Lac commune by rainstorms
