Relief

Cash distribution

Following an assessment completed in early September 2005, a pilot cash distribution project is being implemented in the Tanout area to cover some 90 villages identified as most vulnerable.

Beneficiary registration has been completed in over half of the targeted villages and distributions are expected to commence shortly, pending final technical agreements with relevant authorities.

Food distribution

As of 15 October 2005, the Federation had completed its planned two rounds of general food distribution in Tillaberi and Agadez provinces of Niger.

The overall quantity of commodities distributed is expected to reach 3,265.17 metric tonnes (round 1and 2).

Commodities have been received and a warehousing base established in Birni N'Konni.

A transport support agreement for the food distribution operation has been entered into with WFP and cooperating partners.

The Norwegian Red Cross transport support unit has allocated 58 trucks (M6 + Mercedes).
