Bangladesh – Floods (DG ECHO) (ECHO Daily Flash of 7 July 2017)

Heavy downpours over the last four days have caused additional flooding and flash floods the South-eastern parts of Bangladesh. In particular Cox Bazar and the Chittagong Hill Tract were already hit by Cyclone Mora a month ago where deadly landslides took well over 160 lives two weeks after.

Heavy rains and the subsequent rush of water from the bordering Assam and Meghalaya states in India have led to a deterioration of the situation and it is reported that more than one million people are affected, while 4 people were killed in the last two days.

Relief efforts are on-going. Access remains perilous and several roads remain closed, limiting a access.
