Current Situation: Monsoon is less active over Bangladesh and moderate elsewhere over North Bay. The mighty Brahmaputra-Jamuna continued falling and will fall further. The Ganges-Padma also continued falling and the falling trend is likely to continue. Flood situation in the South-central part of the country is likely to start improving from today and will continue. Central part of the country including capital city Dhaka is not in a threat of 2nd spell of flooding. The prevailing flood situation in the districts of Sylhet & Sunamganj is improving slowly and is likely to improve further. Overall flood situation of the country is in improving trend and will continue in the next 24-72hrs.
FLOOD, RAINFALL AND RIVER SITUATION SUMMARY (as on September 17, 2007)
Flood Outlook
- The mighty Brahmaputra-Jamuna continued falling and will fall further in the next 24-72hrs. Prevailing flood situation in the districts of Kurigram, Gaibandha, Bogra, Jamalpur, Serajganj & Tangail is likely to improve further in the next 24-96hrs.
- The Ganges-Padma also continued falling and the falling trend is likely to continue in the next 24-72hrs.
- Flood situation in the South-central part of the country (Rajbari, Faridpur, Manikganj, Munshiganj, Nawabganj & Dohar of Dhaka district, Madaripur, Shariatpur, Gopalganj and Chandpur) is likely to start improving from today and will continue in the next 24-96hrs.
- Central part of the country including capital city Dhaka is not in a threat of 2nd spell of flooding though low laying areas in the eastern part of Dhaka inundate during last 24 hrs and the situation is likely not to deteriorate further.
- The prevailing flood situation in the districts of Sylhet & Sunamganj is improving slowly and is likely to improve further in the next 24-72 hrs.
- Overall flood situation of the country is in improving trend and will continue in the next 24-72hrs.
