Hurricane Joaquin situation update:

Bahamas: CDEMA, PAHO, and CARPHA teams are doing a damage assessment on Long Island, Acklins, and Crooked Island where extensive damage was reported. MOH requested PAHO to go several sites for a situation analysis.

Northern Crooked Island: over 60 people were evacuated to Nassau; a small population remaining may be evacuated later. At this moment, it is difficult to secure appropriate transportation. Access to drinking water is a main concern, particularly on Acklins and Crooked Island). Water and Sewage Corporation is setting up a water purification system on Long Island and possible Crooked Island.). Several islands are still without communication. Due to high winds, some clinics roofs were damaged, heavy duty tarps have been requested to temporarily fix the damaged roofs. A response plan was implemented by PAHO to support the ministry in meeting the immediate needs not covered at the time. (OS: PAHO SITREP)
