Key messages
Agricultural production in 2011 was 5.8% above 2010 level. Cereal production was 23% higher than 2010 level.
Food prices have increased by 10.6% in 2011 for a broad spectrum of food commodities including staple food.
Cereal imports in 2011 were 13% below the previous year’s level. The import bill was however almost the same due to high international market prices.
Poverty continued to decrease, from 9.1% in 2010 to 7.6% in 2011. Persistent high food prices however cause hardship among the poorest segments of the population.
