Huila government builds hydraulic dams

Lubango - Three hydraulic dams will be built soon in the municipalities of Gambos, Chibia and Lubango, in the ambit of the emergency programme of the southern Huila Province government, aimed at fighting drought, a phenomenon that has been affecting this region of the country.

This was announced last Monday, in Huila,, by the province’s governor, Marcelino Tyipinge, in the end of a work visit to the municipality of Gambos, having informed that that the sites where the mentioned undertakings will be built have already been identified.

He explained that this is an emergency project, since some areas of the province have been strongly affected by lack of rains.

“People complain a lot about the lack of water, but the little rain that falls is wasted, so we’ve planned to make some dams to retain water, namely in Chibemba (Gambos), Quihita (Chibia) and Arimba (Lubango) with a view to giving a definitive solution to the problem”, stressed the governor.

He went on to say that soon the works will start, adding that on another moment the project will be extended to the municipalities Quilengues and Chicomba.

This kind of measure, he explained, will enable that, besides water for people’s and animal consumption, agriculture can also make use of the system.

The governor further explained that the project is estimated at 25 million US dollars and will be executed in four phases.
