Cabinet passes assistance measures for communities affected by drought

Luanda – The Cabinet Council approved on Wednesday a set of immediate measures of support and assistance to the communities in Angolan regions affected by the drought, based on supply of foodstuffs and agricultural inputs, as well as the distribution of water through cisterns.

The information comes on a communiqué released in the end of the Third Session of the Cabinet Council, chaired by President José Eduardo dos Santos.

According to the document, “The Cabinet paid special attention to the situation of prolonged drought that is happening in some provinces of the country and that has been causing significant damage to crops (…), thus affecting the food security of the affected communities”.

In view of this, states the document, the Cabinet Council also recommended that, under the co-ordination of the National Commission for Civil Protection, other medium and long term measures should be adopted aimed at minimising the effects of this phenomenon.

Still in the same session, in the framework of the actions of the executive turned to the support and boosting of the national entrepreneurial sector, the Cabinet also approved a diploma that creates the Credit Guarantee Fund and other diplomas that regulate the activity of the Credit Guarantee Societies.

The Credit Guarantee Fund aims at providing to economic agents the access to financing granted by commercial banks and autonomous funds, through the credit guarantee societies and mechanisms of public guarantees.
