1. Situation update:
1.1 21 people are confirmed dead, 6 victims are still unidentified, and more than 250 are injured. Approximately 10.000 people have been affected.
1.2 It is reported that around 4.000 people have been evacuated from the disaster area. Some 600 persons are accommodated in the residency of MoI (Durres), in the military premises of MoD (Durres) and in private resorts. Shelter, food, medical care, clothing and psychological treatment are provided.
1.3 The situation in the village of Gerdec and in the area declared as a Disaster Zone is being controlled and fully monitored by the authorities. An Inter Ministerial Committee, set up on this occasion, chaired by the Deputy Prime Minster and composed of 6 Ministers of the Cabinet, has the overall lead of the emergency management operations and efforts.
2. Resources available for disaster response and measures taken:
2.1 Army special forces are deployed at the blast site for the clean-up and demilitarization of the area from unexploded ordnances. Good progress has been made and they have reached the crater of the explosion itself.
2.2 150 SAR personnel from the Albanian Armed Forces are deployed on the ground, 38 Albanian EOD personnel, supported by US military assessment team, Slovenian and Danish teams, are fully involved.
2.3 At the request of the Government of Albania (GoA), a 7-member UNDAC team arrived in Tirana for a two week mission. The UNDAC team will support the Government to assess the overall situation and identify priority needs. In collaboration with the GoA, the UNDAC Team will carry out a rapid assessment of the affected area.
