Three Earthquakes hit Hindu Kush Region - Situation Report No. 04 - 19 June 2012
I. HIGHLIGHTS/KEY PRIORITIES
- On 11 June 2012, three earthquakes hit Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region; of varying magnitudes of 5.4 at 09:32am, 5.7 at 09.59am and 4.2 at 01.02am local time respectively on 11 June 2012 according to USGS,
- The earthquakes claimed 75 lives in four districts in Baghlan province, while another 13 people were injured.
- In Baghlan province 114 houses were destroyed, 580 houses were damaged, 10 schools were damaged as well as three mosques in four different districts of Burka, Nahrin, Khost Wa Firing and Guzargahi Nur.
- The impact was also felt in Takhar province where 19 houses were destroyed or damaged in Ishkamish district.
- ANDMA, OCHA and IOM coordinated the response in collaboration with humanitarian actors.
