Return from Pakistan

A total of 1,888 undocumented Afghans spontaneously returned or were deported from Pakistan through the Turkham border (Nangarhar province) and Spin Boldak (Kandahar province) border crossings from 28 May–03 June 2017, according to the Border Monitoring Team of the Directorate of Refugees and Repatriation (DoRR).

Of the total returnees, 1,835 were spontaneous returnees in family groups and 53 were deported individuals. This is a 63% decrease from the previous week and marks an anticipated decline for the holy month of Ramadan. Recent high profile security incidents in Kabul and the Eastern Region are also influencing the decision to return. The total number of undocumented Afghans returnees from Pakistan since 01 January 2017 is now 66,961.

IOM provided post-arrival assistance to 84% of undocumented Afghan returnees from Pakistan (1,595 individuals), including 151 single parents, three unaccompanied migrant children and one special needs cases The assistance provided includes meals, accommodation, basic medical screening, Non-Food Items (NFIs), onward transportation cash grants and referral services, as well as support from partners (see Annex 1) .
