What is the situation in the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region?

As of 21 November 2009, 23:00 hours, Cairo time, 38,859 laboratory-confirmed cases of Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 were reported to WHO by 22 out of 22 Member States of WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region. Somalia has reported the first 2 cases on the beginning of November. There are 330 related deaths from Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 reported, so far, from 17 member states in the Region. These deaths were reported from Islamic Republic of Iran (100), Saudi Arabia (81), Oman (27), Syria (22), Yemen (22), Kuwait (17), Afghanistan (14), Iraq (10), Egypt (9), Palestine (9), Bahrain (7), Jordan (5), Lebanon (2), Tunisia (2) Qatar (1), Morocco (1) and Pakistan (1).

Since the last reporting date (14 November 2009), an additional 9,608 laboratory-confirmed cases of Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 were reported from 11 Member States: Bahrain (518), Egypt (519), Iraq (295), Islamic Republic of Iran (975), Jordan (265), Morocco (343), Oman (1,008), Palestine (189), Saudi Arabia (5,236), Tunisia (145), and Yemen (115). No report was available from other countries. Some countries reported cases retrospectively.
