Highlights

  • Average wheat grain retail prices were on decreasing since July 11 and continued until the reporting month (April 2012). It is mainly due to decrease of wheat price on the regional markets (Pakistan and Kazakhstan). On the International market wheat price is also remained stable during past two months. Recent decrease in wheat price is also due to normal trend of export from main export countries and good precipitation which will hopefully result in good harvest this year.

  • Following the Wheat grain price trend, Wheat flour average price is also on decreasing since Aug. 2011. It decreased by 1.8% during April. 2012, but still 36.4% above pre-food price crisis (Jan-Oct 2007). All cereals together are 50.1 higher than the pre-crisis level. The gap between wheat and wheat flour prices is noticeable due to low milling capacity in the country.
