Khalifa Foundation distributes 17,000 food parcels to the poor in Sana'a

WAM SANA'A, May 16th, 2013 (WAM) -- The Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation (KF) in Yemen has distributed 17,000 food parcels to poor Yemeni families in Sana'a.

The move is within the sixth stage of the Foundation's distribution of food assistance among the needy in implementation of the AED 500 million aid announced by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan for Yemen.

Khalifa Foundation continues distribution of food aid in Sana'a

WAM San'aa, May 8th, 2013 (WAM) -- The Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation has continued the sixth phase of distribution of food assistance to poor and needy people as part of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan's AED 500 million food aid programme for Yemeni people.

The assistance comes in the light of Sheikh Khalifa's keenness to alleviate the daily suffering of the Yemeni people, and embodies the strong relations between the two peoples.

UAE pledges AED183 million in support to Somalia at Somalia Conference 2013

LONDON: The UAE has pledged AED183 million (US$50 million) in aid for Somalia.

The UAE's pledge was announced at the Somalia Conference 2013 which was opened in London today UK Prime Minister David Cameron in presence of high-level representatives of more than fifty countries. The conference aims to provide international support for the Government of Somalia as they rebuild their country, to show international support to President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud who was elected last year and to increase donations for Somalia to improve its security.

Red Crescent carried out a winter relief campaign in Kazakhstan

Astana: The UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) has carried out a winter relief campaign for those affected by a cold wave and heavy snow that hit a number of cities in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

"RCA aid workers have provided relief assistance to a number of families affected by the cold wave in Kazakhstan, Naima Al Muhairi, Acting Deputy Secretary General for Relief and Projects at the RCA, said.

Al Muhairi added the RAC would coordinate with Kazakh official authorities to ensure delivery of assistant to a large number of affected families.

WAM Beirut, Apr 25th, 2013 (WAM)--Hamad Mohammed Al Junaibi, Acting Charge D' affaires at UAE Embassy in Lebanon has opened on behalf of the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation three medical sections: the section of heart and arteries, the section of eyes and dialysis, and the section of maternity at Dar Al Shifa Hospital in Tripoli, funded by the foundation.

Mohamed bin Zayed pledges $120m to fight polio

His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, yesterday pledged a donation of US$120m (Dh440m) in support of global efforts to eradicate polio by 2018, with a specific contribution towards Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The pledge comes on the eve of the inaugural Global Vaccine Summit being held in Abu Dhabi in partnership with His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and co-chair of the Bill '&' Melinda Gates Foundation Bill Gates.

RCA allocates over Dh 4 million to implement developmental projects

The Higher Committee of Foreign aid at the Red Crescent Authority has allocated Dh 4.027 million to carry out developmental projects in a number of countries.

The assistance will cover health, education and social services sectors in addition to the provision of water supplies in areas which suffer from shortage of this vital service.

These projects will be carried out in a number of countries, including Palestine, Yemen, Somalia, Sudan, Jordan and Pakistan, Senegal, Bosnia, Uganda, Benin, Thailand, Chad, in addition to Ghana, Lebanon, Libya and Mauritania.

RCA provides medical supplies to Al Aqsa Hospital in Ain Al Hilwa Refugee Camp

WAM ABU DHABI: Medical equipment and supplies worth AED5.5 million for Al Aqsa Hospital in the Ain al-Hilweh, the largest Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon, were supplied by the UAE's Red Crescent Authority (RCA).

RCA's aid includes life-saving and healthcare materials, rehabilitation of the operating theatre and laboratory and other basic infrastructure of the hospital which serves the residents of the camp which accommodates 80000 people.

UAE-funded camp offers refuge to fleeing Syrians

WAM ABU DHABI: A UAE-funded refugee camp will offer people fleeing the violence in Syria safety and stability.

The UAE Red Crescent Authority's (RCA) newly opened camp will have two schools and hospitals and gives refugees caravans to live in instead of tents, the Abu Dhabi-based The National reported.

By September this year, up to 2,000 pupils will be able to attend lessons at the camp in Mrajeeb Al Fhood, 37 kilometres from the Syrian border.

RCA provides emergency aid to Palestinian refugees in Syria

WAM ABU DHABI: Emergency humanitarian aid worth more than AED 2.8 million to help Palestinian refugees in Syria will be provided by the UAE's Red Crescent Authority (RCA) in coordination with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

The relief aid will be procured from local Syrian markets by the UAE major humanitarian agency whose Syria operation contributes to UNRWA's efforts to help more than 126000 crisis-hit Palestinians in and outside Syria.

Emirati-Jordanian camp receives first group Syrian refugees

Amman: A fully serviced joint Emirati-Jordanian camp welcomed yesterday the first batch of Syrian refugees.

Majed bin Sulaiman, head of the UAE relief team, said the group were transported to the UAE Red Crescent sponsored 'Meraijeb Al Fahoud" camp in coordination with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

The camp is located 25 kilometres away from Zarqa Free Zone on the highway to Saudi Arabia.

Khalifa Foundation delivers aid to Afghan orphans

Kabul: The Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Humanitarian Foundation has handed out in-kind assistance to Afghan orphans at Tehya Orphanage in Kabul.

The Foundation's assistance was delivered to the orphanage in coordination with the UAE Embassy in Afghanistan, in presence of Sayyid Abdullah Hashemi, director of Afghanistan's orphanages and the UAE Ambassador Yousef Saif Seb'a Al Ali, and was overseen by the Permanent Humanitarian and Development Aid in Afghanistan.

Al Maktoum Charity Foundation distributes aid to Women Shelter Centre in Kabul

WAM Kabul, Mar 20th, 2013 (WAM) -- Al Maktoum Charity Foundation, in the presence of UAE Ambassador to Afghanistan Yousuf Saif Subaa Al Ali, has distributed aid to Women's Shelter in Kabul in Kabul as part of its charitable and humanitarian programmme to assist the needy segments in Afghanistan.

The Foundation gave out assistance in coordination with the UAE embassy in Afghanistan and under the supervision of the Permanent Committee for Humanitarian and Development Assistance in Afghanistan.

Khalifa Foundation delivers 20,000 food baskets in Yemen

Sana'a: The Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation has launched the 5th phase of distribution of food assistance to the poor and needy people as part of the UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan's Dh 500 million food aid for Yemeni people.

The Foundation said nearly 20,000 needy families would receive the food parcels.

For their part, the beneficiaries expressed their thanks and gratitude for the UAE leader for his generous support, which they said, would help them to overcome the dire economic situation in the country.

IIRO distributes food aid to 7070 displaced Somalis

WAM Jeddah, Mar 16th, 2013 (WAM) -- The International Islamic Relief Organisation (IIRO), affiliated to Muslim World League, has announced the distribution of food aid to a number of displaced people in the Basoso region in Somalia.

It also distributed the food aid the poor families, of whom 7070 displaced persons and 4970 Somali families benefited from.

It is noteworthy that the (IIRO) has visited some entities in order to assess their activities and work needs so as to help them to overcome difficulties they face.

UAE RCA distributes school supplies among 1000 students in Madagascar

WAM Toliara, Mar 14th, 2013 (WAM) -- The visiting Red Crescent Authority team in Madagascar distributed school supplies among about 1000 students in cooperation with the Madagascar Red Cross Society.

In a statement, Suhail Rashid Al Qadhi, chairman of the team, said that the distribution of the school supplies comes as part of the relief assistance provided by UAE RCA in the areas affected by the Tropical Cyclone "Haruna", pointing that the step aims to help the displaced students in the affected areas to continue learning and improving their educational skills.

UAE RCA begins distribution of humanitarian aid in Madagascar

Toliara: The visiting UAE Red Crescent Authority delegation started distribution of humanitarian food aid to residents of areas affected by tropical cyclone "Haruna".

Suhail Rashid Al Qadhi, Chairman of RCA said that the humanitarian assistances include basic food items and other medical and building supplies for targeted displaced from affected areas.

He stressed that UAE RCA's team will continue distribution of humanitarian assistances on a daily basis until it is delivered to all displaced families under the supervision of team members.

UAE RCA delegation tours clinics in affected areas of Madagascar

The visiting UAE Red Crescent Authority delegation (RCA) inspected the clinics, established in the affected areas hit by the tropical storm "Haruna" in Madagascar.

Suhail Rashid Al Qadhi Chairman of the RCA said that the tropical storm which swept through a number of regions in the country disrupted whole life and particularly the health side which prompted the establishment of ten clinics in different areas for treating the patients.
