Executive Summary

There has been an influx of migration into Thailand from neighbouring Myanmar over the last 20 years, often to take up what are locally referred to as ā€˜3D’ jobs (dirty, dangerous and demanding). These working conditions have a direct impact on the development of young children as they live in precarious environments.

Namibia/State of emergency declared: VSO's Namibian volunteers on the front line

Floods and storms are threatening the homes and work of VSO's 54 international volunteers in Namibia including 22 volunteers from the UK.

Half of VSO's international volunteers are located in the flood-affected north of the country, close to the borders with Zambia and Angola - where a State of Emergency has been declared. Access to clean drinking water is the immediate concern for the staff and the communities they live in.

Wiping away the tears

Esther Mujawayo and her three children are survivors of the Rwandan genocide. Esther is also a widow, and a co-founder of AVEGA, a support group for widows of the genocide. She spoke to Katrina Payne.
'My husband was killed two years ago. In a normal situation I would have had the support of my family, but my mother was killed, my sister and her husband were killed, my mother-in-law and father-in-law were killed as well. It was madness, just killing... and worse, the way they died was so horrible, it sticks in your mind.
