Government and UN Launch $36.7 Million Joint Humanitarian Appeal for Liberia

Monrovia, 19 February 2013 - The Government of Liberia and the United Nations appealed for nearly US$ 37 million today to meet the pressing humanitarian needs of Liberia’s most vulnerable communities during 2013. Australia Supports Liberia’s National Youth Service Programme for Peace and Development

8 August 2012, Monrovia – The Australian Ambassador to Liberia, HE William (Billy) Williams, has announced Australia’s support for a youth empowerment programme in Liberia, by providing funding of AUD800,000 (62 million Liberian dollars).

The funds will support the Liberian Government’s National Youth Service Programme for Peace and Development, and are being delivered through the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF).

Response by UNMIL on 9 June to attack in Côte d'Ivoire leading to death of ONUCI peacekeepers

UNMIL is deeply saddened by the loss of seven peacekeepers serving with its sister mission in Côte d'Ivoire (ONUCI). UNMIL's leadership joins The Secretary-General of the United Nations in his condemnation of the attack on ONUCI peacekeepers.

UNMIL is seriously concerned about the continued instability in the border areas between Côte d'Ivoire and Liberia and is in continuous contact with the United Mission in Côte d'Ivoire (ONUCI) in order to ascertain the situation on the ground and the details of the incident.

Case Progression Report officially launched

The Case Progression Report was officially launched by UNMIL's Deputy Special Representative for the Secretary General for Rule of Law Mr. Louis Aucoin, during an special UNMIL Press Briefing on Thursday 24 May 2012.

This report is the result of the initiative by the UNMIL Legal and Judicial Systems Support Division to assess the work of the Tribal Governors’ Courts (TGC) in the dispensation of justice, aligning and conforming with Liberia’s judiciary in the adjudication of cases.

Newly appointed Chair of the Peacebuilding Commission in Liberia
