Highlights

• On 23 May 2013, AFAD - the Disaster and Emergency Management Agency of Government of Turkey announced that the total number of Syrians registered and accommodated in 17 camps in 8 provinces was 194,758 including 413 Syrians receiving medical treatment in hospitals. This is a very slight decrease compared to the day before due to more returns than the new arrivals.

• AFAD reported that during the last 24 hrs of 22-23 May, 417 new arrival Syrians were registered and accommodated in the camps and 627 Syrians voluntarily returned to Syria.

ABIDJAN, Côte d'Ivoire, May 23 (UNHCR) – Two years after the end of Côte d'Ivoire's brief civil war, growing numbers of refugees have been returning to the country since January after violence last year slowed the rate of returns. But tens of thousands remain in exile.

The latest Inter-Agency Regional Response update highlights that the refugee population planning figure for June 2013 has already been exceeded by 40 per cent.

• 787 demandeurs d’asile congolais sont arrivés durant le mois d’avril portant à 2327 le nombre de demandeurs d’asile enregistrés durant les quatre premiers mois de cette année.

• 3 convois de 411 réfugiés congolais ont été organisés entre les centres de transit de Cishemere et Kajaga et le nouveau camp de Kavumu.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK:

 Over 60,000 refugess received clothes vouchers, blankets, quilts, kitchen sets, matresses, recreation kits for children and other household items;

 Some 14,000 food vouchers were distributed;

 Over 8,000 refugees received hygiene kits and 3,000 received baby kits;

 More than 5,700 students were supported with educational, psychosocial and recreational activities in public schools or in community centers across Lebanon;

 Over 3,700 patients benefited from primary health care services;

• On 19 May 2013, AFAD - the Disaster and Emergency Management Agency of Government of Turkey announced that the total number of Syrians registered and accommodated in 17 camps in 8 provinces has increased to 194,715 including 336 Syrians receiving medical treatment in hospitals.

• AFAD reported that between 17-19 May, 1,699 new arrival Syrians were registered and accommodated in the camps while 1758 Syrians voluntarily returned to Syria. This brought the weekly total of Syrians accepted into camps as 3,013 people and departures from camps to 2,188 people.
