Understanding Urban Growth Trends in Kathmandu Valley

Utilising different tools for understanding urban growth and mapping has become an important aspect for comprehensive disaster risk reduction. These tools include GIS and Open Street Mapping. Each of these tools presents their own strengths and by utilising them, we are able to gain a holistic view of urban mapping and growth. This allows officials to adequately produce and implement risk sensitive land use plans to mitigate disaster risk.

Country Programme Action Plan 2013- 2017

The Government of Nepal and UNDP signed a new Country Programme Action Plan (2013-17) detailing UNDP’s engagement in Nepal for the next five years. The Plan focuses on efforts to reduce vulnerability of communities under threat from climate change and disaster and expanding energy access, while continuing its support for elections, constitution writing and income generating opportunities. During this period a budget of approximately USD 159 million will be used for implementing these programmes.
