Humanitarian Coordinator concerned over situation in Amran Governorate

Sana’a, 10 April 2014 – The Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen has called on parties to the situation in Amran Governorate to avoid further escalation of the conflict and allow humanitarian partners full and unfettered access to people affected, to ensure the delivery of assistance and effective protection of civilians.

The call comes amid reports of high tension in the northern Yemeni governorate, where tens of thousands of people displaced by conflict in recent months remain in need of humanitarian assistance.

A blockade of the main roads going into Sa’ada is preventing fuel, food, medical supplies and other necessities from reaching the people there. Aid workers are unable to deliver assistance to 14,500 IDPs.

Sana’a, New York, 13 November 2011, The United Nations calls for the protection of civilians after renewed violence claimed the lives of at least sixteen civilians – including three children and three women – with a further 48 injured on Friday in Yemen’s southern city of Taiz.
