Sudanese refugees in Chad deny reports about voluntary return to Darfur

April 1, 2012 (KHARTOUM) – Sudanese refugees dismissed reports alleging that thousands have returned voluntarily from eastern Chad camps to Darfur region since the signing of the Doha Peace Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD) in July 2011.

The director of Sudna’s High Commission for Refugees, Mohamed Abdallah stated last week stated that at least 100.000 Sudanese refugees returned to West Darfur state as result of the joint efforts exerted by Sudan and Chad.

More Chadian rebels return to Ndjamena from Darfur

October 28, 2010 (KHARTOUM) - A new group of Chadian rebels left Darfur region yesterday to Chad in implementation of security arrangements ending proxy war between the two countries.

The sixth batch composed of 60 rebels flied to Ndjamena from El-Fasher the capital of North Darfur on Wednesday evening. Also, the seventh group, according to the official SUNA should leave on Thursday.

Sudan and Chad agreed last January to end proxy war and to stop their support to the rebel groups. They also decided to form joint units to patrol the border between the two countries

Fourth batch of Chadian rebels leave Darfur to Ndjamena

October 11, 2010 (KHARTOUM) - The fourth batch of Chadian rebels left Darfur heading to Chad from El-Fasher the capital of North Darfur state, a Sudanese government sponsored news service reported.

The Sudanese Media Center said on Sunday that some 171 elements from a rebel umbrella called the Union of Resistance Forces (URF) accepted voluntarily to return home. "The operation is encouraged and supported by the Chadian and Sudanese governments," said the media outlet.

Mediator postpones Darfur civil society meeting as Sudanese official meets rebel leader

January 17, 2010 (NDJAMENA) - The Joint Chief Mediator for the Darfur peace process, Djibril Bassole, has delayed a meeting between rebel groups and civil society representatives after a three day meeting with the Justice and Equality Movement in the Chadian capital.
