Israel secretly deports Sudanese migrants

February 28, 2013 (LONDON) - The UN High Commissioner for Refugees has demanded that Israel provide an explanation for the secret deportation of more than 1,000 Sudanese migrants via a third country.

The story, first published in Israel’s English-language daily Haaretz on Tuesday, drew an outcry among human rights activists and politicians, with leader of the Israeli Labour Party, Shelly Yacimovich, describing the deportations as “immoral”.

South Sudanese returnees from Israel say they suffer economic hardship

December 4, 2012 (JUBA) - Representatives of South Sudanese who have returned from Israel a few months ago have appealed to the government to help them reintegrate into the society by alleviating their economic hardship.

Over 1,100 South Sudanese were reluctantly returned from Israel this year in an operation which was similar to a deportation by the Israeli government. Majority of them found their way illegally into Israel through Egypt over the years. The Israeli government refused to recognize their permanent residence status in their country.

Sudanese refugees in Israel protest plans to jail them

October 14, 2012 (KHARTOUM) – Around 300 Sudanese asylum seekers demonstrated in Israel on Sunday against government plans to incarcerate them, demanding recognition of their status as refugees in need of protection.

The protesters gathered outside government headquarters in the capital Tel Aviv chanting slogans saying “we are refugees, not infiltrators” and holding signs reading “we are not criminals, why are we being put in jail”, several news sources reported.

Israel deports over 100 Sudanese migrants to unnamed country; report

February 23, 2011 (KHARTOUM) - Israel has reportedly airlifted 100 Sudanese illegal immigrants on a flight that -took off on Tuesday night from Ben-Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv en route to an unidentified destination.

According to a report published on the same day by the Israeli website Ynet, a flight carrying more than hundred Sudanese immigrants was scheduled to take off on Tuesday and land in an unnamed country from which the immigrants would be transported to their country of origin.
