KRCS launched "Ragheef" campaign for Syrian refugees in Jordan

AMMAN. Feb 17 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) launched here on Sunday the "Ragheef" campaign, in aid of Syrian refugees in Jordan.

"Ragheel one month-campaign is offering a total of 120.000 loaves of bread to Syrian refugees in various parts of Jordan. Head of the Kuwaiti delegation, and Head of Public Relations in KRCS Khalid Al-Zaid told KUNA.

This campaign, the 8th to be launched by KRCS, includes distributing bread and other aid in-kind to families of Syrian refugees, he added.

Relief items to the people of Yemen

Based on the desire of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait and the decision of the Kuwaiti Council of Ministers to provide urgent humanitarian assistance of relief items to those affected by internal events in the republic of Yemen, it has been agreed upon to assign the Kuwaiti Red Crescent Society such a humanitarian mission.

An official source in the Kuwait Red Crescent Society declared that the first Batch of Aid will be sent on Tuesday, 20/10/2009 consisting of (10) trucks traveling by land.

Humanitarian relief campaign for the Palestine people, 16 Jun 2009

First Flight

Kuwait Red Crescent Society has created a bridge of relief items to aid the Palestinian people from the impacts of the aggressive Israeli attack.

The first flight was on 30/12/2008 containing 10 tons of medical items.

The shipment was accompanied by two of the society's volunteers who delivered it to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society with the aid of the Egyptian Red Crescent Society

Second Flight

The second flight of relief items was on 8/1/2009 containing 2 equipped ambulances and 112 cartons of medical items with a total weight of 12 tons.

OPT: Humanitarian relief campaign for the Palestine people

First Flight

Aid to Iran, Pakistan and Sri Lanka

Islamic Republic of Iran
In response to the Earthquake that hit the Iranian Republic on 31 March, the Society and after discussing the needs of the victims with the Iran Red Crescent, sent relief items to help save the victims of the earthquake. Among those items there were200 cartons of food provisions, 1000 tent, 4000kerosene stove, 500 generator, 1000 carton bottled water 3598 bag of rice, 3000 blanket, 5000 mat and 50 water pump with a total of KD 131,000.

On 30/5/2006 and in response to the Java earthquake the Society immediately transfered to the account of the Kuwaiti Embassy in Jakarta the sum of US$ 500,000 to be allocated to the purchase of emergency needs for the victims of the earthquake. In the meantime the Society chartered a plane to transport vital needs from medicines to tents to be deployed in the disaster area to help cure the wounded.

India: Tsunami relief

The Kuwaiti Red Crescent Society contribution to assist the vulnerable people of India.

India was among the less affected areas in Asia and inspite of this fact the Society decided to donate the sum of US$ 400000 to the Indian Minister of State for External Affairs Fund to help the neeedy people affected by the Tsunami disaster.

Sri Lanka and the Maldives: Tsunami relief

Following the arrival to Mali Island, capital of the Maldives the delegation members went to inspect the damage caused by the earthquake of Tsunami waves.

Following the visits, during which they didn't see except minor damages, despite the fact that water flooded city street at a height of half a meter. They saw some 80-120 victims from the neighboring island who had been provided shelter at 4 schools.

Thailand: Tsunami relief

Disaster in brief:

- Tsunami had destroyed Sumatra, Republic of Indonesia and it extended to SriLanka, India, Maldives Islands, Pocket Island, Thailand, and some African territories due to Tsunami waves and other damages.

- Phuket, Kayu Island, South of Thailand was most affected.

- The number of victims is more than 50000, the dead are 6000 in addition to 3000 missing persons.

Indonesia: Tsunami relief

1- Disaster in brief:

Tsunami had destroyed the bigger part of Sumatra north of the Republic of Indonesia and Banda Ache area, to the North of the Island is the most affected part of the world, it suffered 80% of total damage at its populated coastal area over 10km distance inland. The number of victims in this area is more than 230,000 dead (90% of them were buried). The main coastal roads were damaged, a state that made it difficult to reach there in order to identify the extent of needs and to assist the victims.

South Asia: Report on Kuwait Red Crescent Society relief campaign

In response to the Bay of Bengal Earthquake and Tsunami disaster that struck several countries in Asia on Sunday the 26th of December 2004. US$ 10 million dollars were allocated to help the affected countries mainly Indonesia - Sri Lanka - Thailand - India - Maldives.

- Cash donations were transferred to India's Prime Minister's Relief Fund, a sum of US$ 400.000 (four hundred thousand dollars).
