Japan announces partial completion of Tsunami road

Jakarta, Indonesia-Relief -- The opening ceremony for the partial completion of the West Coast Road Rehabilitation Project was held in Calang on October 4. Mr. Shin Ebihara, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Kuntoro Mangkusubroto, Director of Rehabilitation and Reconstruction NAD, and others dignitaries participated in the ceremony.

Japan has provided assistance for the rehabilitation of the West Coast Road which extends about 130 kilometers from Calang to Meulaboh. On October 4, the road between Calang and Teunom, extending 33 kilometers, was rehabilitated.

Indonesia: Yudhoyono visits West Java tsunami zone

Pangandaran, Indonesia-Relief - President of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Friday, 9.50 am, arrived at Nusawiru airport in Ciamis district. The airport is not far from Pangandaran beach resort area, the worst area affected by last Monday earthquake and tsunami.

On visiting Pangandaran area, Yudhoyono asked local disaster agency (Satkolak PBP) to distribute food assistance to the tsunami victims as fast as possible as he heard that a lot of tsunami victims haven't received any assistance. The president also asked them to search for casualties for more weeks, as they did in Aceh.

Java tsunami death toll almost 400

Jakarta, Indonesia-Relief - On the third day after last Monday tsunami, according to Indonesian Ministry of Social Affair, total death victims has reached 396 people and another 700 peoples injured. The ministry also said that 187 people still missing.
''We expected more death toll to come as there are still 187 people in missing status,'' said the ministry on a statement on Wednesday morning. The ministry hopes all the missing people will be found as the search and rescue effort has been intensified.

Indonesia: Java tsunami death toll reach 237

Jakarta, Indonesia-Relief -- Tsunami that hit southern coast of West Java and Central Java has killed more than 237 peoples. The biggest number of victims, 184 peoples, found in beach resort area of Pangandaran, Ciamis district, West Java, and neigbhoring district of Tasik Malaya, nearest to the earthquake epicentrum, 91 people found death.
In Central Java, the biggest victim recorded at Cilacap where 67 people found death. Another 6 people found death in neigboring district of Kebumen. While in Gunung Kidul, part of Yogyakarta, two peoples found death.

Indonesia: Freeport donates 1 billion for Java earthquake

The gold mining company PT Freeport Indonesia has provides donation of Rp 1 billion to the victims of Saturday earthquake. Similar amount of donation also provided by Indonesian conglomerate, Prayogo Pangestu. The donation channeled through the Jakarta based Metro TV, which totally has collected more than Rp 4 billion during the first day of the earthquake.

Indonesia: IOM hands over Dutch houses to tsunami survivors

Banda Aceh, Indonesia-Relief -- This Friday, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) handed over keys for newly constructed homes in Riverside village to the tsunami-devastated community of Dayahraya, in Baitassulam. The units are funded through the generosity of the Government of the Netherlands.

Aceh and Nias Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Agency (BRR) Director Kuntoro Mangkusubroto will accompany the families as they dismantle their tents and relocate to their new homes in Riverside.

UNHCR to import Mexican timbers for Nias

Gunung Sitoli, Indonesia-Relief -- A Shelter Working Group Meeting held last week at Aceh and Nias Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Agency (BRR)'s office in Nias finalized standardization codes for timber for housing reconstruction in Nias. The agreement was achieved after several meetings, organized by the BRR Nias office.

Indonesia: Finland to donate 8 million euros to Aceh

Helsinski, Indonesia-Relief -- After its country men succeeds in bring Aceh peace agreement, the Finnish Cabinet Finance Committee on Wednesday agreed to provide 8 million of euros to help rebuild Aceh.
As reported by Helsingin Sanomat, Finland will contribute the aid to the multi-donor trust fund, which was founded in May and is governed by The World Bank and the Indonesian Government. The Finnish grant will be disbursed between 2005 and 2007.

Indonesia: ILO holds rural infrastructure clinic in Banda Aceh

Indonesia: Triangle completes three fish markets in Aceh Besar

Lhoknga, Indonesia-Relief -- The Triangle Generation Humanitarie (TGH), a French NGO, has completed construction of 3 out of 4 planned fish auction markets (TPI) in Aceh Besar district. A ceremony to inaugurate the new fish auction markets held on Monday in TPI Lhoknga, along with the handing over of 50 boats to local fishermen.
TGH officer, Simon Lavabre, said in a statement that the completed TPI are located in Lhoknga (in subdistrict of Lhoknga), Lampuuk (Lhoknga), and Saney (Lhoong). TGH has involved in the area since eight months ago to help 262 fishermen.

Indonesia: AWB helps rebuild 1,000 building in Aceh

San Fransisco, Indonesia-Relief -- Craig William, director of Architect Without Borders (AWB), said his organization will build or rebuild 1,000 building in Aceh, especially schools and orphanages. To finance the project, AWB has received financial support between $3 and $4 million from Steve Olson, a building developer from Southern California.

San Fransisco, Indonesia-Relief -- The Asia Foundation, the premier non-profit organization devoted to Asia's development since 1954, announced on Thursday that it has received a $4,900,000 AusAID (AUS $6 million) grant from the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) to fund a local election and democratic governance program in Indonesia. South Asia: UAE Sheikh donates $1.8 million to tsunami survivors

Abu Dhabi, Indonesia-Relief -- The Zayed Foundation for Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation has entered into an agreement with the Uni Arab Emirat Red Crescent Authority to set up charity projects worth $1.8m for tsunami victims in Indonesia and Sri Lanka.
The agreement signed by Salim Al Dhahiri, general director of Zayed Foundation, and Khalifa Nasir Al Suwaidi,UAE Red Crescent Society Board Chairman.

Indonesia: Chevron, USAID invite Acehnese youth to attend vocational training

Jakarta, Indonesia-Relief -- The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and Chevron Corporation are offering scholarships to over 300 Acehnese youth, aged 18-22, to attend three-month vocational skill-building courses in Caltex Polytechnic in neighboring province of Riau.

Indonesia: Canadian Red Cross rebuilds 700 homes in Aceh Besar

Jakarta, Indonesia-Relief -- The Canadian Red Cross (CRC) is currently implementing project to rebuild 700 homes in Kreung Raya, subdistrict of Mesjid Raya, Aceh Besar, near Aceh main port of Malahayati. American Red Cross supports the project by providing sanitation and water facilities.
In Kreung Raya, in cooperation with Jakarta branch of Soroptimist International, Netherlands Red Cross (NRC) also involved in construction of 195 of houses, wrote International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in its latest report.

Indonesia: Natural gas company completes construction of school in Lampuuk

Banda Aceh, Indonesia-Relief -- Indonesian natural gas company, PT Badak NGL, has completed reconstruction of SMP 2, a middle school in Lampuuk, Aceh Besar.
