HOPE worldwide Philippines has dispatched disaster relief teams working with local communities in Davao and Compostela Valley ; where most affected victims of Typhoon Bopha are struggling to survive after the terrible catastrophe.

Teams are helping communities searching for missing relatives and family members. Many people affected are getting troubles to access food as they are begging for help on streets.

HOPE worldwide Philippines is providing 'roving kitchen' to feed at least 500 affected children daily for at least one month.

Typhoon Bopha has killed people over 400 people as reported by media while affecting over 5 million people (a million families) in Mindanao. Reports said that 348,392 people have evacuated in the 541 evacuation centers.

Flood Waters Rise at the Laguna Center, Manila

Wednesday, August 8, 2012 - Heavy rain fueled by a tropical storm is causing extensive flooding across the Philippines. The HOPE worldwide team is safe but deeply affected by the floods. As of 7 a.m. today, the water level at the Laguna Center of HOPE worldwide reached 4 - 5 feet. Yesterday afternoon the children were evacuated to the second floor of the administration building. We are looking for a location to relocate them should the water level keep rising. We are also seeking temporary housing for the HOPE worldwide staff and their families affected by flooding.

Rain continues to pour in devastated Ambon as thousands of displaced residents are surviving through a week after the Flood

The tropical storms are going rampant in Asia in this monsoon season as it is affecting Ambon, Indonesia. After the Aug 1 flood that came through broken levy on the riverbanks, residents are trying hard to survive the challenge.

The number of houses flooded was reported to be 5,240 houses, while the number of residents displaced are around 6,179 people (as of Aug 5th report by BNPB). They are staying in various worship places and schools in Ambon as minimal support are being provided by local government and some local organizations.

Heavy Rain killed 8 people and flooded 1,785 houses in Ambon, Indonesia

Continuous rain in the last few days have caused flood at dawn (around 04:00 am local time) on the first day of August.

Three people are reported missing while 599 people displaced, as reported by Sutopo Purwo Nugroho of BNPB (National Disaster Management Agency).

As of 18:00pm local time, areas of Nusaniwe, Sirimau, Teluk Ambon, Baguala, and Leitimur still flooded while landslide occurred in several places.

Immediate needs include meals ready to eat, sandbags, mattress, clothes, blankets, and cooking kits.

Situation Report Dec 24, 2011 – HOPE worldwide

Following the December 4, 2011 eruption, Mount Gamalama continue to be active. Since then, several eruptions had taken place as late as December 23, 2011.

On December 14 to December 17, 2011, HOPE worldwide’s disaster relief team distributed 3,300 masks as well as conducting a rapid assessment on the ground in the island of Ternate.

• There were no dead casualties, but 2,368 people (550 families) were reported to be displaced by the Ternate City Disaster Management Agency (Dec 15, 2011).

The Philippines suffer another deadly storm, killing close to a thousand people

On December 17 th , 2011 (local time), Tropical Storm Washi washed through the southern part of The Philippines, bringing 957 dead, 1,582 injured, and 49 missing as reported by Benito Ramos of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Dec 20, 2011. The storm damaged 10, 345 homes.

NDRRMC also reported that 338,415 people (63,079 families) are affected while 42,773 people are staying at evacuation centers. Locals call the tropical storm ‘Sendong’.

Iligan and Cagayan de Oro are the two port cities on Northern Mindanao that suffer greatly.

Mount Gamalama, the ever growing volcano in the spice island erupted

Around 11pm on December 4th, 2011 (local time), Mount Gamalama in the Ternate Island erupted. The volcanic ashes were released covering up to 1 centimeter of about 180,000 residents on Ternate Island in the North Maluku Province.

Rain that poured down washed the ashes down to the sea as the residents are still worry about what would happen next.

Excessive rain and overflowing capacity of reservoirs in Thailand has brought flooding to 28 of 77 provinces. 366 people have been reported dead so far while 2.5 Million people are affected by the flood. 4 Million acres of agriculture land has been flooded.

The capital of Thailand, Bangkok, which is known for its Chao Praya River is also flooded. Residents have moved into evacuation centers such as Don Muang Airport, only to be moved again to other areas as Don Muang area is also receiving flood water.

Mount Lokon eruption caused over four thousands displaced in North Sulawesi

Situation Report no.1, July 15, 2011 – HOPE worldwide

• On July 14, 2011 at 11.31pm local time (Central Indonesia Time), Mount Lokon erupted, releasing hot lava, ashes and gases as high as 1,500 meters up into the sky.

• No death is yet to be reported due to the eruption, but there are 4,412 persons displaced in the Tomohon city, just south of Manado city, the capital of North Sulawesi Province. Mount Lokon is located just 28 kilometers from the mount, bringing fear of further damage by the volcano.

On 11 March 2011 at 05:46 (UTC) Japan was struck by an earthquake of a magnitude 9.0, depth 24km, with the epicenter off its north-east coast. The earthquake generated a devastating tsunami (up to 38m waves) on the Pacific coast, whose consequences in terms of death toll, injuries, economic damage and environmental damage are still being calculated. On March 21, the World Bank estimated damage between US$122 billion and $235 billion.

RELIEF EFFORTS IN PAKISTAN

Thanks to the generosity of hundreds of people around the globe, on December 1st, HOPE worldwide began a winterization program in Charsadda District of Khyber Pashtun Kwah (KPK) Province in Pakistan. Indonesia: Medical team serving remote islands of Mentawai as over 100.000 displaced after Merapi's larger eruption

After days of bad weathers and limited transportation, medical team managed to arrive in Sikakap, Mentawai on November 3 to provide assistance. Mentawai present a different challenge in disaster relief as there are no roads to reach severely affected villages along the west coasts. There are also only a few piers that allow ships to anchor, if the tides slowed down to allow sailing.
