Habitat for Humanity China to rebuild homes in quake-hit Qionglai city in Sichuan

Bangkok, 20th May 2013 – Habitat for Humanity China, part of international non-government housing organization Habitat for Humanity, today announced that it will support families in Qionglai city affected by the recent Sichuan earthquake. It will help them rebuild homes in Maping village in Tiantaishan town and Jingkou village in Gaohe town, as part of its ‘Sichuan Post-Earthquake Rebuilding Projects’.

Habitat for Humanity seeks funding to help families affected by Sichuan earthquake

Tens of thousands homes destroyed or damaged

Bangkok, 25th April 2013 – Habitat for Humanity has launched an appeal to assist families affected by the 7.0-magnititude earthquake that struck Lushan County, in Sichuan province, southwestern China, on Saturday 20 April.

Over 190 people have been killed, nearly two million people affected, and more than 70,000 homes have collapsed, according to the Civil Affairs Department of Sichuan. The earthquake epicenter was in Longmen township, Lushan county, in Ya’an City, at a shallow depth of just 13 kilometers.

It catalogues and analyses the charity’s responses to a broad sample of disasters, identifying key learning, challenges and practices for the future.

Habitat for Humanity Thailand receives THB6.27 million from Nissan to help families in substandard housing

Bangkok, 22 January 2013: Habitat for Humanity Thailand and Nissan Motor (Thailand) today announced the launch of a project to help 33 families living in Sam Khok district in Pathum Thani province. Under the partnership, Nissan will donate THB4.35 million in cash and two Nissan Navara 4x4 pick-up trucks (worth THB1.92 million), bringing the total value of the donation to THB6.27 million (approximately US$210,000).

15,000 people forced to leave their homes

Bangkok, 18th January 2013 – Habitat for Humanity Indonesia has launched an appeal to assist families affected by severe flooding in Indonesia’s capital city Jakarta and outlying areas. According to latest reports by Indonesia’s National Board of Disaster Management[1], more than 15,000 people have been forced to leave their homes, and over 100,000 people have been affected by the floodwater.

SANNAR, Sri Lanka, 16 January 2013: Warook Sabuhan lived in a Sri Lankan refugee camp for more than 20 years before he finally had his own home. Now 31, he was among 101 families in Vaddakandal village in Mannar district in the north who received core houses built by Habitat for Humanity Sri Lanka. The Habitat houses were funded by Japan Plaform through HFH Japan.

Habitat achieves five-year target of 50,000 families in three years

24/08/2012 - The common goal of improving the living conditions of as many poor people as possible has resulted in a mutually beneficial partnership between SOS Children's Villages International and Habitat for Humanity International.

Rebuild Sri Lanka 2012

From 6th to 11th August 2012, 158 volunteers will join as Peace Builders to help build 24 houses for families living in Pathayamwatte village, in the Western Province of Sri Lanka, approximately 40 km from Colombo. One of the 24 houses will be built prior to the arrival of the volunteers.
