Iran: Khatami says NGO to oversee Bam reconstruction, lauds nations on quake aid

Kerman, Dec 30, IRNA - Iranian president Mohammad Khatami said here Tuesday that a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) will be set up with the responsibility of reconstructing the quake-devastated city of Bam.

A powerful and destructive earthquake hit the city of Bam in the early hours of Friday 26 December 2003 in southeastern Iran in the Kerman province. Thousands of people are reported dead and injured. Iran: Dr. Kharrazi's Interview on formation of Crisis Management Headquarters in Foreign Minisrtry on Bam earthquake

Iranian foreign minister, Dr Kamal Kharrazi, in an interview on Saturday, announced formation of crisis management headquarters in foreign ministry to coordinate the dispatch of foreign aids and relief workers to the quake-hit city of Bam.
