Under a decision issued by Minister for International Development Heidi Hautala, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs will allocate 1.9 million euros in humanitarian aid to the victims of the crises in the Sahel region and Syria. In addition, one million euros will be granted in support of the World Health Organisation humanitarian programme.

Kimmo Kiljunen, the Foreign Minister’s Special Representative to regional peace-mediation tasks, visited Myanmar and Thailand just before Easter. As a result of the earthquake that hit the province of Van on 23 October more than 2,200 buildings were destroyed and tens of thousands of people were left homeless. As the weather is getting colder, Turkey is in dire need of tents suited for winter use.
The Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs will allocate EUR 23.6 million of emergency aid by the end of this year. The new decisions made by Minister for International Development Heidi Hautala will raise Finland’s total humanitarian contribution to more than EUR 90 million in 2011. Alongside the alleviation of acute distress situations, Finland lays emphasis on finding long-term solutions.

Under a decision issued by Minister for International Development Heidi Hautala, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs has pledged to deliver humanitarian aid worth 5 million euros to the victims of the humanitarian crisis in the Horn of Africa region. Three million of this will be channelled via the United Nations World Food Programme, 1.1 million via the Finnish Red Cross and 900,000 euros through Finn Church Aid.
Finland and Afghanistan have launched cooperation aiming to improve the possibility of women to participate in peacebuilding, reconstruction and conflict prevention. The intention is to increase the possibilities of Afghanistan’s ministries and other authorities to promote women’s participation as equals and to strengthen cooperation with local organisations.
Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Paavo Väyrynen has granted EUR 1.5 million in humanitarian assistance to people suffering from the crisis in Libya. The aid is channelled through the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). Each organisation is granted 500,000 euros.
Owing to the crisis in Libya and the stream
of refugees coming to Tunisia, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development
Paavo Väyrynen has decided to grant 1,200,000 euros from the Foreign Ministry's
humanitarian aid funds for the relief work done by the Finnish Red Cross
in Tunisia. The decision now made by the minister follows on the previous
decision to grant 150,000 euros.

Paavo Väyrynen has decided to grant 150,000 euros to the Finnish Red Cross
for humanitarian relief efforts owing to the crisis in Libya. The International
Committee of the Red Cross, the ICRC, is providing aid to victims of the
crisis by sending assessment delegates, surgical groups and medical supplies
to the region.
The Finnish Red Cross has today sent
three workers to Tunisia, and if needed, additional personnel will be available
later.

humanitarian aid appropriations for the first part of the year, totalling
58 million euros, to people suffering from the world's crises. Finland's
entire humanitarian aid budget for 2011 totals 78 million euros.
The purpose of humanitarian assistance
is to save human lives and alleviate human suffering caused by crisis situations.
The humanitarian aid donated by Finland is based on the joint appeal published

Paavo Väyrynen has granted 2.5 million euros to three projects supporting
the rehabilitation of the education sector in Haiti.
Finland will finance a school building
project by UNDP through which ten new schools will be erected in place
of those destroyed in the earthquake. Five large school centres will be
built in Léogâne in south-western Haiti and five smaller ones in the adjacent
mountain area. This region was the epicentre of the earthquake that hit
the Caribbean country in January.

Paavo Väyrynen has today granted the sum of 800,000 euros in humanitarian
aid owing to the cholera epidemic in Haiti. Half of the sum will be channelled
through WHO and half through Finnchurch Aid.
The funds channelled through WHO will
be used for efforts to combat and prevent cholera at the national level
in Haiti. Finnchurch Aid, in turn, will use the sum to support the work
done by Finnchurch Aid staff locally. Among other tasks, aid workers supply
interim shelters, clean water and medical supplies.

and Development Paavo Väyrynen, Finland has granted an additional 3.2 million
euros in aid of flood victims in Pakistan. Because the situation in Pakistan
is difficult, the distribution of humanitarian aid by the Ministry for
Foreign Affairs to take place later in autumn was partially pushed forward
for this.
With the additional support now granted,
Finland's aid for the flood victims in Pakistan rises to a total of 4.4
million euros.
The abnormally heavy rains of July and
August have brought about a severe humanitarian crisis in Pakistan. The
Today on Wednesday, Finland has offered
Russia equipment and expert assistance to fight forest and wildfires.
The assistance offered consists of two
forest fire protection containers which include fire fighting hoses and
pumps. In addition, Finland is prepared to send two forest fire experts
to Russia. Russia holds in high regard Finland's expertise in fighting
peat and forest fires.

can be taken immediately to the border and from there to the region indicated
